    Fluorouracil (flure-oh-YOUR-a-sill) (Adrucil®)

    Class of Drugs: antimetabolite

    Manufacturer: Sicor Pharmaceuticals (Teva Parenteral Medicines)

    Description: Adrucil is a colorless to faint yellow injectable solution.

    Ingredient: Flurorouracil, an anti-cancer chemotherapy drug

    Use: Breast carcinoma - palliative therapy

    Warnings: Adrucil injection therapy is contraindicated for patients in a poor nutritional state, those with depressed bone marrow function, those with potentially serious infections or those with a known hypersensitivity to Adrucil. 

    Side Effects: Your stomach, esophagus and throat may become irritated. The irritation may cause ulceration. Diarrhea, anorexia, nausea and vomiting are commonly seen during therapy.

    Side effects that you should report to your health care professional as soon as possible are swelling or redness of normal skin, black or tarry stools, blood in the urine, chest pain, confusion, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, fever or chills, cough or sore throat, lower back pain, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, pain or difficulty passing urine, pain, swelling, redness or irritation at the injection site, stomach pain, tingling of the hands and feet followed by pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, pinpoint red spots on the skin, or unusual tiredness or weakness.

    Side effects that usually do not require medical attention are patches of dark colored skin, hair loss, headache, increased sensitivity of the skin and eyes to sun and ultraviolet light, skin tenderness, indigestion, loss of appetite, skin rash, itching, watering eyes (tearing), and eye irritation. Report these to your doctor if they continue or cause discomfort.
