    Aredia (Pamidronate disodium)

    Description: Pamidronate disodium is a white powder that is administered intravenously. The solution should be clear with no particles floating in it..

    Ingredient: Pamidronate disodium

    Use: Aredia inhibits bone resorption in Paget's Disease and bone metastases associated with breast cancer.

    Warnings:
    Severe mineral unbalance can result from this treatment. Blood levels of calcium, phosphate, magnesium and potassium must be closely monitored while on Ariedia.

    Aredia must not be mixed with calcium containing solutions (such as Ringer's) and should be given in a separate IV line.

    Side Effects: Side effects include a slight fever following administration of the drug, generalized pain, hypertension, abdominal pain, anorexia, constipation, nausea, vomiting, urinary tract infections, bone pain, anemia, mineral and electrolyte imbalaces were reported due to low bood levels of the minerals cited above. Treatment with IV or oral mineral supplements  may be necessary if the blood levels drop too low.

    Renal impairment was reported in a small percentage of patients in clinical trials. While on Aredia, care should be taken to drink adequate amounts of fluids. This reduces the risk of urinary tract and kidney complications.

    There have been incidences of anaphylactic shock reported as a result of the administration of this medication.
